The Americans have adapted Nana for the cinema, but there is very little left from the novel itself. A friend from New York sent him the script, which LeBlond is in turn sending to Deffoux. Can Deffoux write a piece on this scandalous movie? The family will protest officially and LeBlond will keep Deffoux informed.

Has not found Pissarro’s letter in his archives.

Cannot find Zola’s letter concerning A Rebours. Thanks Deffoux for his article in L’Oeuvre. Still has bronchitis.
• Autograph letter from M. LeBlond to Léon Deffoux, dated «Paris, 16 rue Stanislas 6 mai 1936». Tells Deffoux about a PhD defence that will soon take place in the Sorbonne, about Cézanne and Zola. He read part of the work and considers the research remarkable. Sends the address of the PhD candidate. The Pissarro letter he was referring to was actually written by Monet.

Is asking Deffoux to sign a petition. The meeting the night before was somewhat chaotic and nothing good will come out of it.

The passage underlined in blue could be used for L’Oeuvre. Feels very tired and overworked. Announces the engagement of his daughter Aline to a young engineer, the grand nephew of Sheurer-Kestner. In the fall, the couple will move to Montbéliard, where the young man will be working for Peugeot.

Did not know that the movie about Zola’s life was censored in Poland. It was also censored in Germany and in Italy. Has been unwell for a while, had to slow down.

Thanks Deffoux for sending an article. Mentions a new thesis, recently published by a young woman, Yvonne Dangelzer. Deffoux is quoted often in the thesis. LeBlond intends to pay a visit to Deffoux in the coming days.

Suggests publishing Zola’s letter and Huysmans’s reply. Would like to see Deffoux; LeBlond has some «loisirs», so Deffoux should let him know when he is free.
• Autograph letter from M. LeBlond to Léon Deffoux, dated «Paris, 6 janvier 42», on carte-lettre stamped «Paris 6 1942». Thanks Deffoux for the note on Batilliat published in L’Oeuvre. LeBlond caught a bad cold during the burial ceremony of Batilliat. On 1st January, he fainted during a family reunion. He feels better now. Sends his best wishes for the new year.
• Autograph letter from M. LeBlond to Léon Deffoux, dated «Paris, 13 avril 42», on carte-lettre stamped «Paris 15 IV 1942». Thanks Deffoux for the Cahier Huysmans. About the address 28 rue Royale in Saint-Cloud: remembers that there was a printing shop at that address. Does not go out very much but would be happy to see him.
• Autograph letter from M. LeBlond to Léon Deffoux, dated «Paris, 22 mars 43», with envelope bordée de noir. After his talk, would have liked to chat with Deffoux. Shares his sorrow on the occasion of the death of Emile Zavie, who was Deffoux’s old friend. LeBlond is not feeling well but will look forward to visiting Deffoux as soon as he is better.

Gives the authorization for Deffoux to consult the correspondence at the Bibliothèque nationale. Huysmans’s letter about the Manifest is not there – LeBlond has it. Is looking forward to seeing Deffoux shortly.

• Autograph letter from G. Vanveltenbeuyzin [?] to Léon Deffoux, dated «Le 22 mai 1937» - with enveloppe stamped «Paris 24-V-1937». Has just completed a study about Léon Bloy. Would be grateful if Deffoux could submit it to the Mercure – Belgian journals are not well distributed in France.
