Rev. James A. McKinney was born in Murphysboro, Illinois on April 19, 1924. He attended Asbury College and Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky and Ohio Wesleyan Officer Candidate School. After serving in the Marine Corps and Navy during World War II, he returned to ministry and served Indiana Methodist churches in Vevay, Tell City, Sullivan, Madison Trinity, Franklin, Christ Church-Indianapolis, Carmel, East Columbus and Bartlett Chapel. He officially retired from the Methodist Church in 1989. In 1990, he was associate pastor at Lawrence United Methodist Church. He spent the last 11 years of his ministry as pastor of Christians United Church at Soldiers' Memorial Chapel at Fort Harrison. He retired in 2010. He died on November 24, 2015.
