        History

John Alexander (Jack) McNeil, born in Angus, Ont., in 1876, was a journalist who worked for various newspapers, including the Toronto Mail and Empire and the Montreal Gazette. While he made his living as a newspaperman, his real love was the theatre. He collected books, records and photos, many of which were autographed by the world's leading actors. He was a renowed authority on Gilbert and Sullivan's operettas, as well as eighteenth century music and plays. He died in 1964.
