History
Gilberto Meza (1954-) was born 21 February 1954 in Guadalajara, Mexico. In 1972, he met a number of young poets as a non-degree student at the University of Guadalajara and formed a poetry workshop. In 1973, Meza became a proofreader for the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Guadalajara and published his poem Perforation in Rock, for which he won a poetry prize at the university's Floral Games. While continuing to write poetry, Meza worked as a proofreader at the Guadalajara newspaper El Informador between 1975 and 1976 before briefly becoming a Spanish teacher. In 1977, Meza emigrated to Germany before returning to Mexico the following year, settling in Mexico City to work at the daily newspaper Uno Mas Una. Meza's poetry has appeared in several poetry magazines and publications. In 1982, a collection of his poems were translated into English and published together as Testament for Man by Dreadnaught Press. Limited biographical information is available past this date, although Meza has continued to publish poetry sporadically. Meza's most recent anthology Aquelarre was published in 2017.
