        History

        Most Reverend John P. Boles, D.D., Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Boston was born on January 21, 1930, the son of Agnes Brett Boles and Edward Boles. In 1947, he was a member of the third graduating class of St. Sebastian's Country Day School, Newton, Massachusetts. He then studied at St. John's Seminary in Brighton, Massachusetts and was ordained to the priesthood on February 2, 1955. He graduated from Boston College in 1965 with a doctorate in education having previously received Masters degrees in theology and psychology. In 1974, Rev. Boles was named the pastor of St. Paul Parish, Cambridge and Senior Chaplain for the Harvard- Radcliffe Catholic Community. He was ordained Bishop on May 21, 1992 at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston and served in this role until he retired in 2006. He died on October 9, 2014.
