Scope and content
Series documents Davis’ involvement in the University of Michigan Senate’s Davis, Markert, Nickerson Lecture on Academic and Intellectual Freedom. The annual event developed following a 1989 proposal made by the University of Michigan Chapter of the American Association of University Professors that the University of Michigan’s Senate take action in recompense for the 1954 dismissals. Material includes correspondence documenting Davis’ involvement in the coordination of speakers, his and Zemon Davis’ consistent attendance, as well as donations to the Fund. Additionally, programmes, other publicity material, and clippings on the event or academic freedom more generally are also included.
