History
The Early Music Ensemble at the University of Toronto started as one of the student chamber music ensemble offerings at the Faculty of Music, first listed in the Faculty's academic calendar in 1974-1975. By the 1979-1980 academic calendar, it was listed as a stand-alone ensemble (PMU 187Y, 287Y, etc). During the 1990s, these ensembles were named the Historical Performance Ensembles." Directors included Timothy J. McGee, Garry Crighton, Alison Mackay, Gregory Johnston, Mary Enid Haines, Alison Melville, and Ivars Taurins.
