History
The West African Drumming and Dance Ensemble is one of the "Global Music Ensembles" initiated by James Kippen at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music. This particular ensemble, directed by Kwasi Dunyo, started in 1999 and is first listed as a stand-alone ensemble in the 2005-2006 academic calendar.
An earlier iteration of this group, under the umbrella "Folk Music Ensemble" led by Leslie Hall, was directed by Kathy Armstrong, Vivian Goffard, Deanna Shinde, and Alan Hetherington (master drummer).
