The carols are: Behold the days come (Jeremiah 23: 5 and Isaiah 7:14); High, word of God (10th century, translated by Charles Bigg); Hark, Shepherd, how the angels sing (traditional Dorset); How vain the cruel Herods fear (Sedulius 5th century, translated by John M. Beale; Moonless darkness (Gerard Manley Hopkins); and Now blessed be Thou, Christ Jesu (Miles Coverdale, from the German).
