"The first three movements were inspired by Sir Walter Raleigh's expedition to form a colony in North America in 1584 and 1587. The finale was written as a closing work for a concert.       The Murray/Lohuis Duo (Robert Murray, violin and Ardyth Lohuis, organ) premiered the final movement "Allegro Spiritoso" at the Cannon Chapel at the University of Richmond (October 15, 2004). They later premiered the full sonata at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Virginia (August 23, 2006).
