Scope and content

Subseries consists of syllabi, reading lists, lecture and reading notes, assignments, and final examinations from several courses on comparative politics taught by Nevitte. These include three courses he taught at the University of Calgary (1980s – 1995): Political Science 463: Comparative Democratic Systems; Political Science 670: Comparative Government and Politics; and Political Science 673: Advanced Comparative Government and Politics. The materials also document three courses he taught at the University of Toronto (1995 – 2018) including one undergraduate course titled POL 492: Theories of Comparative Politics and two graduate courses titled POL 2300: Comparative Politics (Industrial Societies) and POL 2700: Comparative Politics. Course topics include methodologies, political development, systems theory, political culture, group behaviour, social structures, and state-society relations.

This subseries also includes Comparative Politics and Industrial Comparative Politics field examinations from 2001 to 2013. These field exams were administered to doctoral candidates in the U of T Department of Political Science’s doctoral program after their first and second years as a requirement to continue in the program.

Digital files consist of a proposed course syllabus, a 2011 Comparative Politics Field Exam, and sample student exam submission.
