Scope and content
File consists of correspondences between James McConica and O'Neill-Karch. Specifically, items in file include:
- Letter from JM (August 23, 1983), responding to a card, sent by MOK, congratulating him on his nomination as the next President of USMC. On the card was a "tree of fools" and, in his response, JM hopes "that the arbor is still an arbor vitae, whatever delightful surprises the arboreal foliage may contain!"
- Letter from JM (November 28, 1986), responding to a letter from MOK and to her Varsity Fund contribution. Slow in answering because of laryngitis: "a real bore". Pleased to have MOK's suggestions "about perks for members of the President's Committee".
- Letter from JM (April 25, 2008), thanking MOK for her edition of the correspondence of Germaine Guevremont and "Bill" Deacon: "I am greatly indebted to you for making me aware of a whole era of relations between the Two Solitudes through which I lived, but in ignorance even of how sadly late this exchange of cultures was. I fear that we are still very far from the kind of self-knowledge we ought to have if we pretend to be a nation."
- Email from MOK to Rick Always (April 30, 2008), announcing the cancelation of the planned celebration due to Pierre's emergency hospitalisation.
- Email from JM (May 1, 2008), expressing sympathy. He hopes MOK received his recent letter.
- Email from MOK (May 1, 2008). No change in Pierre's condition. The "wonderful letter" will be forwarded to MOK's editor, as well as to the author of the Preface, "who is waging a losing battle with cancer".
- Email from JM (May 2, 2008), expressing concern and offering prayers. There is one last reference to the book, which "is a real Canadian um".
- Email from MOK (May 5, 2008), concerning Pierre's hospital stay.
- Email from JM (May 6, 2008), saying, among other things, that we "will both need a glass or two of some superior French vintage..."
