Scope and content
Zuckerkandl apologizes for his lack of correspondence, explaining that he has been rather busy. He relates that his wife [Marianne] had to be operated on but is recovering well. In six weeks’ time they will be travelling first to the Hutchinsons [Li Osborne (later, Louise Hutchinson) and William Dodge Hutchinson] in England, and then to a sanatorium in Tegernsee by the end of July. Zuckerkandl feels the conference program is somewhat one-sided and laments that Erich von Kahler cancelled his participation, although [Károly] Kerényi’s lecture will compensate for that. Zuckerkandl is not entirely clear with the discussion of new and old contracts and asks if this business can be postponed until he is in Ascona. Zuckerkandl has been in conversation about Eranos and funding with [John David] Barrett [Jr.] and Mr. McCormick and suggests that Ritsema send an invitation to Eranos to the latter. Zuckerkandl will be meeting with Mr. Stone from the Ford Foundation to discuss the same. Zuckerkandl is grateful for the 1000 dollars he may claim. [Continuing on the margin] Zuckerkandl relates that Rhein-Verlag will be publishing Die Wirklichkeit der Musik [volume 1 of Sound and Symbol, Music and the External World, German] and asks if Ritsema will be able to get a copy in Europe.
