Scope and content
File also consists of 117 letters, postcards and notecards of incoming correspondence sent from Henri to Jutta Ayer from May 23, 1983 to July 23, 1996. 5 of the items are copies, however, the remaining 112 are originals that were sent to Ayer either directly from Nouwen himself or by Connie Ellis or Kathy Christie, both of whom were Nouwen's administrative assistants. Jutta Ayer was a student of Henri Nouwen at the Harvard Divinity School and at Boston College. She took Nouwen's Introduction to the Spiritual Life course during the spring semester of 1984 at Harvard and again in the summer semester of 1985 at Boston College. Ayer became a close personal friend of Nouwen and they frequently corresponded from 1983 until 1996.
