Scope and content
Series consists of radio scripts, drafts and clippings of music criticism and reviews, and program notes. Between 1949 and 1963, John Beckwith was a regular freelance writer and staff continuity writer (1953-1955) for various CBC radio series and composer documentaries, which he researched, wrote, and in some instances, narrated. At the same time, Beckwith wrote concert reviews for the Globe and Mail (occasional, 1948-1949 and 1952-1953), for the Toronto Daily Star (regular critic, 1959-1962, 1963-1965), and record reviews for the Canadian Music Journal (associate editor, 1957-1962). He also wrote program notes for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (1966-1971).
