Scope and content
File consists of a collection of type-written and handwritten texts for German Lieder, organized with a table of contents. Some English translations are provided. The texts were collected in an envelope marked "Programs with Nicki" in Emmy Heim's hand. Nicholas Goldschmidt (1908-2004) served as the first director of the Royal Conservatory Opera School (1946-1957), was one of the founders of the Royal Conservatory Opera Company (1950, now the Canadian Opera Company), and was the first music director of the CBC Opera (1949-1957). During this time, he was colleagues with Emmy Heim, who taught at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Heim provided introductory comments for Goldschmidt's Hallmark recorded (January 1954) accompanying himself on a group of Schubert songs.
