Archival history
The photograph albums belonged to and were compiled by Henri Nouwen. The inside covers of each album are stamped with his name and address at Yale University. After his death, they were cared for by the Nouwen family and donated to the Archives in November 2012. The Nouwen family acquired the albums in one of two ways: 1) As part of the personal belongs Nouwen left stored in trunks with friends and family in the Netherlands 2) After Nouwen's death when the family visted L'Arche Daybreak and were invited to take belongings from his room.

Sub-series consists of 5 photograph albums containing approximately 781 photographs and ephemera taken by or collected by Nouwen. Included are early personal photographs of Nouwen's trips abroad, his time at seminary school and his tenure at Yale Divinity School.
