History
Timothy Rice joined the University of Toronto Faculty of Music as a lecturer in the Department of History and Literature of Music in 1974 with the promise of a tenure-track position if he completed his dissertation (University of Washington, 1977) during this initial three-year contact. Rice taught at the Faculty until 1987. During his time at the University of Toronto, he also served as Coordinator of the Department of History and Literature of Music (1981-1985), established a course on multicultural music education with David Elliott, and started a "folk music" performance class (the Folk Music Ensemble). Rice left the University of Toronto in 1987 to join the ethnomusicology department at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music.
