      Peter Gillespie was appointed lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering in 1903 and head in 1924; he died in 1929 at the age of 56. C. R. Young was appointed lecturer in 1907 and head on the death of Gillespie; he later became Dean of the Faculty.
