File consists of correspondence and documentation regarding the Advisory Group Meeting held by Sue Mosteller, with assistance from Kathy Christie, on July 11-July 13, 1997 at Dayspring in Richmond Hill to discuss the direction and management of Henri Nouwen’s legacy. Appearing in the file are lists of attendees (Susan Brown, Christopher de Vinck, Wendy Greer, Gwendolin Herder, Andrea Kennedy, Beth Porter, Fred Rogers, Andrea Shappell and Maria ter Steeg); letters of invitation; a meeting agenda; a list of items to be considered with accompanying reference documentation; handwritten notes by Mosteller; and meeting minutes with identified action items. Items addressed over the course of the weekend include potential book and video publication projects; the launch of a Nouwen web site; the gathering of stories about Nouwen and his influence; the review and publication of Nouwen’s unpublished work held at Yale University; projects underway at Notre Dame University by way of Don McNeill and Andrea Shappell; the centralization of Nouwen’s archives; the vision for a possible Henri Nouwen Society and the role of L’Arche Daybreak funding in its establishment; and an invitation from Bellarmine College to visit the Thomas Merton Center. Included in the reference material is documentation regarding a Nouwen related video by Parish of Trinity Church for their “Pioneers of the Spirit” series; a letter from James Clois Smith Jr. at Sunstone regarding a trapeze related book; a letter from Dennis Ciccone of White Oak Publishing to Fred Rogers regarding the publication of a Nouwen reader and prayer book; and a request to do research for a book by Carolyn Whitney-Brown with enclosed resume and writing samples.
Several items unrelated to the meeting, which appear to have been added at a later date or misfiled also appear in the file. They include: a brochure for the Henri Nouwen Society; a brochure regarding Henri Nouwen Society’s in Europe, the United States and South Africa; an undated postcard to [Alex?] to [Adriana?] written in French.
