System of arrangement
Series file arrangement and titles based on labelling and arrangement used by Henri Nouwen Literary Centre, Henri Nouwen Literary Trust and Henri Nouwen Society administrative staff. Files are generally arranged alphabetically based on the name of the incoming correspondent or event. The filing order established by the Henri Nouwen Literary Centre, Henri Nouwen Literary Trust and Henri Nouwen Society administrative staff, sometimes based on acronyms or the second word in a file title, has been maintained. Subsequent files from later accessions were added to the appropriate file or to the end of the alphabetical system in processing order. See file notes for details on additions.

Title based on contents of series.
A significant amount of the correspondence consists of email printouts or faxes, with handwritten letters and cards appearing throughout.
Chronological arrangement of the file records from oldest to newest was imposed by the archivist.
Duplicate records pertaining to the operation of the Henri Nouwen Literary Centre, the Henri Nouwen Literary Trust and the Henri Nouwen Society appear throughout due to overlapping reporting structures and administrative staff support. Most of the records are in English with a number in Dutch, German and French; a few records are in Spanish and Italian.
