File consist of material related to the Yale University Archives and Manuscripts’ Henri J.M. Nouwen Papers and their transfer to the University of St. Michael’s College (USMC). Included is correspondence from Margaret Sutton and Stacie Christie to Martha Smalley regarding deposits to Nouwen’s archival material at Yale; Sue Mosteller’s correspondence with USMC President Richard Always, Dean Brian Hogan, Yale’s Martha Smalley and legal counsel Monique Van Remortel regarding the transfer and shipment of Nouwen’s archives to USMC; a September 1999 newsletter regarding building renovations at Yale Divinity School; a phone listing of USMC contacts; correspondence between Smalley and Kathy Christie; a memo with notes by Maureen Wright regarding her meeting with Linda Wicks, Archivist for Morrow Park; the Declaration of Gift signed by the Yale University Divinity School Library and Sue Mosteller in her capacity as Nouwen’s Literary Executrix; minutes from a January 12, 2000 meeting at the Kelly Library; a Yale University inventory of the Henri J.M. Nouwen Papers; and a bibliography of Nouwen’s work by Kyle Henderson. Also in the file is a 1997 estimate for painting the attic in the main [Nouwen?] office.
The second file folder consists of correspondence between Margaret Sutton and Martha Smalley, Curator of Special Collections at the Yale Divinity School library regarding deposits made to the Henri J.M. Nouwen Papers and the collection’s upkeep. Also in the file is correspondence regarding visits by Nouwen to Yale; letters of thanks to Nouwen and, later, Mosteller regarding financial support provided to the library; Mosteller; a February 1999 Update newsletter regarding building renovations at Yale Divinity School; a draft letter from [Mosteller] to Lon [Whitman] regarding his visit to Abbey of the Genesee to review Nouwen material held there; and an email from Mosteller to Kathy Christie regarding Laurent Nouwen’s thoughts about the potential transfer of Nouwen’s papers to the University of St. Michael’s College.
