File consists of eight photographs that were collected by Carol Plantinga Mead. Six of these photographs feature Henri Nouwen. Two of the photographs were sent to Mead by Nouwen's father, Laurent Nouwen, and do not feature Nouwen.

  • P3435: Photograph of Henri Nouwen. He is at his birthday party at Carol Plantinga Mead's home and is opening gifts, including "The Book of Tapestry", a coffee mug with multicoloured hearts, "The Way of the Heart" (by Nouwen), and a yellow stuffed heart that is around his neck. Nouwen is wearing a blue suit jacket and black and white plaid tie, and a Yale hat. Back of photograph contains annotation in two different hands, the first reading: "Henri's birthday party - Jan. 1981", and the second reading: "(49 years old)".
  • P3436: Photograph of Henri Nouwen. He is at his birthday party at Carol Plantinga Mead's home, and is talking to Joseph Nunez, Mead, and Robert (Bob) Massie. Nunez and Massie were students at Yale Divinity School. Nouwen is wearing a blue suit jacket and a black and white plaid tie. Back of photograph contains annotation in two different pens: "Henri, Joseph Nunez, Bobbie Massie seated (students at Yale Div. School) at Carol Plantinga Mead's home. Jan. 1981".
  • P3437: Photograph of Henri Nouwen outside at Yale Divinity School in spring of 1981. He is smiling and facing off camera. He has his left leg up and is resting his left arm on it. He is wearing a blue blazer, jeans, a white shirt, tan tie, plaid scarf, and a black cap. Shot 1. Back of photograph contains annotation: "Spring 1981. Yale Div. Sch". Back of the photograph has Kodak stamp from May 82. Back of copy annotated in pen by Laurent Nouwen: HN at Yale.
  • P3438: Photograph of Henri Nouwen. He is outside at Yale Divinity School sitting down and resting his right arm against a railing. He has his left leg up and is resting his left arm on it. He is facing left off camera. Nouwen is wearing a blue blazer, jeans, a white shirt, tan tie, plaid scarf, and a black cap. Shot 2.Back of photograph contains annotation: "Yale Div. School court yard outside Henri's office. 1981?". Back of the photograph has Kodak stamp from May 82. See P3505 for other photos from this sitting.
  • P3439: Undated photograph of Henri Nouwen. He is smiling just to the left of the camera. It is a close-up shot, but he is outside, presumably leaning with his left hand on a tree, as there is a branch with leaves and berries just over his left shoulder. He is wearing a light brown sweater with a white collared shirt underneath. Photograph was likely taken between 1975 and 1981.
  • P3440: Photograph of Carol Plantinga Mead, Henri Nouwen, and John Mogabgab. They are all outside near trees. Mead and Nouwen are seated facing away from the camera and smiling. Mogabgab is standing to the right of them facing in the same direction. There are guitars in the grass to his left. They were at a worship service at Swarthmore College. Photograph contains annotation by Mead: "Worship at Swarthmore College while Henri was doing a retreat at Pendle Hill with John Mogabgab and Parker Palmer and a large group of attendees. Summer 1981? (Carol Plantinga Mead, Henri + John)".
  • P3441: Photograph of Marc van Campen and an unidentified friend. They are standing in the garden behind the home of Henri Nouwen's father, Laurent J.M. Nouwen. They are standing next to a bronze statue of a bird of prey. This photograph was sent to Mead by Laurent J.M. Nouwen, and back of the photograph features a note from Nouwen.Photograph contains annotation by Laurent Nouwen: "Dear Carol, Thanks for your letter from Oct 15, just received. Greetings to Henri. Photograph also contains annotation by Mead regarding sending greetings to Henri: "[Hamden, CT]".
  • P3442: Photograph of Henri Nouwen's father, Laurent J.M. Nouwen's, home in winter. Photo was taken from far away, so some of the surrounding forest can be seen. Photograph was sent to Mead by Laurent J.M. Nouwen, and contains a note by him on the verso of the photograph. Photograph contains annotation by Laurent Nouwen: "The everlasting winter 1983/4. [?] for an old man, like me! Laurent Nouwen. Geysteren. 19/3/85." Note is signed.
