Scope and content

File consists of correspondence relating to the "Hamel collection," a manuscript of songs collected in the late 19th-century from the Gaspé entitled Annales Musicales du Petit-Cap by Thomas-Étienne Hamel, held in the Archives du Séminaire de Québec, and Beckwith's 1998 compositions Trois chansons and A Young Man from Canada. Correspondents include Kenneth Peacock, Patricia Abbott, Gordon Smith, Darryl Edwards, Stephanie Conn, Jean Schneider, Barbara Hannigan, and Iwan Edwards.

File also includes a program from a premiere performance of three of the five songs in A Young Man from Canada by Darryl Edwards, tenor with Jean Schneider, piano at the Britton Recital Hall, University of Michigan (January 9, 1999). Edwards later premiered all five songs on August 19, 1999 at the First Baptist Church in Woodstock, Ontario.
