      History

      The University of Toronto Concert Band, established by Robert A. Rosevear was founded in 1962 and first listed in the 1963-1964 Faculty of Music academic calendar as one of the performing organizations of the Faculty. It was the successor to concert bands established in 1946 by Rosevear.

      Membership was required for wind and percussion performers at the Faculty but also open to students and staff of the whole university by audition. Subsequent conductors of the ensemble include Ronald Chandler, Melvin Berman, Stephen Chenette, Wayne Jeffrey, Bruce McGregor, Bramwell Smith, Bobby Herriott, Eugene Rittich, Cameron Walter, Denise Grant, and Jeffrey Reynolds.

      Starting with the 2003-2004 season, the band was renamed the "Symphonic Band" under the leadership of Jeffrey Reynolds.
