Administrative history
In 2003, a task force was established by the Emmanuel College Council to review the need for a continuing education program at Emmanuel College. A report was presented in November 2003 and recommended the establishment of a program and that the mission of continuing education at Emmanuel College be: "to provide continuing education and to provide ministers (both ordered and lay) with effective continuing education and formation, promoting the goal of enlivened congregations through enlivened leadership."
In 2004, the Executive of the Council recommended the established on a Continuing Education Committee to oversee the program. They held their first meeting on September 20, 2006.
Emmanuel carries out its continuing education program in cooperation with other colleges at TST and other theological schools, education centres and United Church congregations, presbyteries and conferences. In 2015, Emmanuel College and Five Oaks Education Centre established a formal partnership in Continuing Education which included co-sponsoring and advertising some of each other's programs as well as developing new programs together. On November 15, 2016, Five Oaks ceased its programming, but Emmanuel College continues to look at ways they can support the continuation of some of Five Oaks' established programs.
