Scope and content

File consists of manuscript scores, parts, sketches, and an annotated copy of the manuscript score for a piece for four trumpets, three horns, two trombones, and tuba. The work was commissioned by the University of Toronto Alumni Association for the installation ceremonies of George Edward Connell as President of the University in Convocation Hall (November 16, 1984). The premiere performance was by the Faculty of Music Brass Ensemble, conducted by Stephen Chenette.

File also includes manuscript scores for "Mid-Riff" and "Wrap-up", two companion pieces to "For Starters" that Beckwith composed in 1994. Beckwith revised "Wrap-up" in 2007. The revised set of three pieces was titled Three Brass Rings.
