        History

        Ettore Mazzoleni was a conductor, teacher, and administrator. After moving to Toronto in 1929, he taught at Upper Canada College (1929-1945) and the Toronto Conservatory of Music (TCM, 1932-1968). In 1945, he was appointed principal of TCM, renamed the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) in 1947, and from 1952 to 1966 he also served as director of the Royal Conservatory Opera School (later the University of Toronto Opera division). Between 1953 and 1956, Mazzoleni was the artistic (1953), managing (1954), and general (1955-1956) director of the Opera Festival of Toronto, which would become the Canadian Opera Company (COC). He was also the associate conductor of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO, 1942-1948). Throughout his career, he conducted a number of opera productions and was a guest conductor for various Canadian symphony orchestras.
