File consists of George Brough's five-year diary, spanning the years 1981 to 1985. During this time, Brough was an accompanist and opera coach for the Banff School of Fine Arts and for the University of Toronto Opera School (full time to 1983; part-time basis after that). Brough also worked on various Canadian Opera Company productions and accomanied numerous Faculty of Music and Royal Conservatory of Music students in their final recitals, exams, and master class performances.

Opera productions that Brough was involved with during this time include: The Merry Widow by Franz Lehár and Victor Leon; Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss II; The Marriage of Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; La belle Hélène by Jacques Offenbach; Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti; Candide by Leonard Bernstein; Carmen by Georges Bizet; Elektra by Richard Strauss; Faust by Charles Gounod; Riders to the Sea by Ralph Vaughan Williams; Amelia Goes to the Ball by Gian Carlo Menotti; Der fliegende Holländer by Ralph Vaughan Williams; La Fanciulla del West by Giacomo Puccini; The Barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini; La bohème by Giacomo Puccini; La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi; L'incoronazione di Poppea by Claudio Monteverdi; Curlew River by Benjamin Britten; Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg by Richard Wagner; Anna Bolena by Gaetano Donizetti; The Rake's Progress by Igor Stravinsky; Death in Venice by Benjamin Britten; Falstaff by Giuseppe Verdi; and The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; and Un ballo in mascera by Giuseppe Verdi.

Brough also regularly performed with the Mendelssohn Choir, the Chamber Players of Toronto, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Lorand Fenyves, Robert Aitken, Ada Bronstein, Joel Quarrington, James Campbell, Albert Greer, and Jeanne Baxtresser, among others.
